The District of Muskoka is still counting the costs from its first major snowstorm of the winter.
Over a 72-hour period starting November 29th, the region saw more than five feet of snow, with Gravenhurst hit the hardest. The District estimates over $2 million in extra operational expenses through mid-December. The District of Muskoka reports road maintenance alone cost around $750,000—37% more than usual.
Water and wastewater system maintenance also saw a spike, with emergency snow removal adding another $230,000 to the bill. Officials are still tallying final costs as invoices continue to come in.
