Following the Thanksgiving long weekend, OPP reported significant results from their road safety blitz.

On October 9 and 10, OPP officers and pilots from OPP Aviation Services patrolled Highway 11, targeting aggressive, inattentive, and impaired driving, as well as seatbelt compliance.

Due to heavy traffic, OPP Aviation Services tracked several near-collisions, directing ground units to intervene. They issued 56 charges for following too closely, 11 speeding charges, and 23 warnings.

One notable incident involved a tractor trailer weaving through traffic, which was monitored for four kilometers before being stopped, resulting in four separate offense notices for the driver.

The OPP say they will continue to focus on the “Big Four” factors in fatal collisions.
