Trillium Lakelands District School Board advises that students will need to turn off or silence their devices and put them away when they return to school next week.

The new rules, passes by the Ford Government, aims to reduce distractions and foster better engagement in the classroom.

Associate Superintendent Tanya Fraser says that excessive device use can hinder attention and relationships, so this new "off and away" rule aims to enhance student participation.

The policy covers cell phones, tablets, and smartwatches, with exceptions for health, special education needs, or teacher instructions.

The schoolboard says the update aligns with new provincial guidelines aimed at improving student learning and mental health.
