With spring approaching and temperatures rising, the Township of Muskoka Lakes is gearing up for the annual spring freshet and are advising property owners to take precautions to protect their homes.

The Ministry of Natural Resources reports that most managed lakes in the watershed are at or below target levels, with water levels generally trending downward, However, snow water content is slightly above normal for this time of year.

To reduce flood risks, residents should clear snow and ice from drains, check sump pumps, and secure items near waterways. Extreme caution is advised around lakes and rivers as conditions change.

The MNR is monitoring water levels and will issue updates if flood risks arise.
