A recommendation was approved by the Huntsville General Committee in the September 28, 2022, meeting that the District of Muskoka work with the Town to install speed tracking devices to deal with speed issues.

Roads of particular interest for the devices include Muskoka Road 10, South Mary Lake Road, and Clear Water Lake Road in Port Sydney.

Councillors also discussed consideration for Muskoka Road 3 and Hanes Road in Huntsville for the devices.

Council members indicated they are receiving complaints from the public through email, Facebook, phone calls and in person, from Huntsville and Port Sydney, about speeding being a concern on various residential roads.

Councillor, Dione Schumacher, said, “I get emails from residents all over South Muskoka Road that problems exist. They fix the road and then it becomes a thoroughfare.”

The goal is to reduce speed and increase enforcement.

Councillor, Brian Thompson, suggested making a recommendation to alert new Council to the problem, and have them, “consider a new budget for speed suppression devices that can move around,” which the committee agreed with.

Councillor, Tim Withey, added, “We got to get on board with this issue because it’s not safe out there.”

Councillor, Dan Armour, also expressing his support to the committee members to implement action towards speeding, said, “The only way to control speed is enforcement.”
