Hotter than normal summer in the forecast
On the first full day of summer, the Weather Network is forecasting a hotter-than-normal summer across Canada from June to August, with reduced rainfall and increased sunshine. While this is ideal for summer activities by lakes and pools, it also brings concerns.
The Weather Network says prolonged heat raises risks such as drought, heightened wildfire danger, and poor air quality from stagnant conditions. Southern and Central Ontario can expect a hot and humid summer, with southwestern regions like Windsor and London facing extended heat waves.
Despite a well-watered start from a wet spring in agricultural areas, northern Ontario may experience dry spells, heightening the risk of wildfires and air quality issues due to smog and smoke.
Additionally, the heat will fuel strong storms, potentially leading to severe weather outbreaks throughout the season.
