The District of Muskoka says they are taking significant steps to enhance waste management sustainability with a new Solid Waste Master Plan. In light of rising costs and environmental concerns, the 30-year plan aims to reshape waste practices in the region.
Building on a Waste Strategy completed in 2021, Muskoka targets a 10% reduction in garbage generation and a 60% diversion of solid waste from landfills by 2030. The District says these goals will increase to 25% and 80% by 2050. The plan will explore comprehensive waste management options to meet the community's evolving needs while prioritizing sustainability and economic viability.
To involve the public in shaping this future, the District launched an online survey at EngageMuskoka.ca
