Bear sightings up in Huntsville

The Ministry of Natural Resources is warning Huntsville residents to be cautious after bear sightings in the area. Over the past week, there have been more than 20 reported sightings, mostly near Highway 60 and Muskoka Road 3. Bears are being drawn to garbage, apple trees, and other attractants.

To prevent further bear encounters, the MNR advises removing potential attractants such as garbage, bird food, and ripe fruit.

The MNR says limited natural food sources may be driving bears into communities, but they are less likely to stay if these food sources are unavailable.
